Napolean Hill and the Master Mind Concept
"No
person has the chance to enjoy permanent success until he/she
begins to look in a mirror for the real cause of their
mistakes" ... Napolean Hill
Napolean
defines the Master Mind as "a mind which grows out of the
blending and coordination of two or more minds in a spirit of
perfect harmony."
Your
company is an example of that blending. If you are a
salesperson, that blending is the sum total of your support
team, your family and the peers you work with, play with and
Network with.
Are you
all in perfect harmony?
Your job
as a leader is to manage that blending. Your job as a
salesperson is the same... are you surrounding yourself with
people who support what you do in perfect harmony?
The power
of an "esprit de corps" has been demonstrated often throughout
history.
Gauge and
measure the "esprit de corps" of your company or support
group. Napolean Hill said "Have specific meetings, with the
purpose of merging the individual minds in to a Master Mind,
which will, for a few days serve as a stimulus to the
individual minds."
The power
of Master Minds motivation has been used by the likes of Henry
Ford, Harvey Firestone, Mary Kay, William Wrigley, Hertz,
Heinz and Andrew Grove of Intel, to name just a few.
Do you
recognize any of these names?
Look at
your results today. Look in the mirror, you are the real cause
of all the mistakes. If your culture is filled with
"individual minds" all going in different directions, you are
the cause. It is your job to provide the motivation for them
to merge as a group.
If you, as
an individual salesperson lack motivation, find a group of
successful salespeople to network with. Consider forming a
group of non-competing people who all service the same market
and work to motivate each other by providing leads and
support.
Enthusiasm
and excitement are felt by others. Your customers will feel
the enthusiasm and excitement of you and your staff. Get
excited about what you do if you are not. If you act excited
and enthused, eventually you will feel enthused. The body can
train the mind. Did you ever hear the old saying, "fake it
until you make it?"
Fill your
staff with enthusiasm by taking time to meet with them solely
for that purpose. Have fun. Do it on a regular basis. Say that
is your goal, to keep everyone and the company moving forward
by "being of the same excited and enthused mind."
Remind
everyone of all the great benefits that your customers receive
by doing business with you. Remind everyone of their benefit
when the company succeeds.
If
everyone cannot clearly see the benefit of "the success of the
company" ... perhaps you need a more clearly defined bonus,
profit sharing or commission plan.
DOES
EVERYONE HAVE A REASON TO CELEBRATE THE "MASTER MIND?"
Look in
the mirror... are you excited?
If not,
commit to making this a part of what you do every day or
follow a regular schedule and see what results.
You just
might put a big smile on that person in the mirror after all.
Gratefully
yours,
Steve |
