Talents and Gifts
What do I mean by talents and gifts? Talents and gifts are those
things that when you do them, time disappears. They come easily to
you and you do them better than anyone else and it feels good when
you do them. It comes naturally to you and always has.
When we are embracing our talents and gifts we are
on purpose. Close your eyes for a moment and think of what your
talents and gifts are. What have been the moments in your life
where you were on purpose, when you felt most alive? Remember all
of the times when you applied them or made use of them or just did
them because it felt so good and came so naturally to you. Close
your eyes and see yourself in those moments where time disappeared
where everything was easy and there was no fear. Feel the feelings
that you felt. See it like watching a movie of yourself in those
moments. Hear the sounds. What are your talents and gifts? Go
ahead and do it now for just two minutes and then come back.
So what did you come up with? Get out a piece of
paper and write them down, get them onto paper now while it is
fresh in your mind. Take one minute to write them all down.
So there they are. These are your talents and
gifts. And realize that we will always be discovering new ones
within us.
Remember, the phenomenon is that we teach what we
need to learn most and that the best way to learn is to teach. How
can we apply this to our talents and gifts? The answer is by
taking this phenomenon to the next level. Remember how wonderful
it feels when you are embracing your talents and gifts and in that
moment where time disappears and you are at peace? Now imagine
what it will be like when you teach your talent to others. What do
I mean by this?
The easiest way for me to describe this is by
using myself as an example. One of my talents and gifts is being
out on the water fishing. When I am out there, time disappears and
I am more connected to myself than ever. I am also connected to
nature and it brings me peace. I am at peace when I am fishing and
on the water. To apply the phenomenon to this particular talent of
mine, I will teach fishing to others, or take others out with me
on the water and teach them about fishing and the ocean and share
my sense of wonderment and my passion for it. When I do this, I
learn so much more than when doing it by myself.
Perhaps another way of looking at it is to share
your talent with others. Doing this expands the time you spend in
your talent and increases your pleasure and sense of peace.
I will leave you now with a universal truth I
learned several years ago. The degree to which we embrace our
gifts and talents, we experience pleasure and good things happen
to us. At the same time, the degree to which we ignore our gifts
and talents, we experience pain.
How can you embrace your gifts and talents now and
share them with others?
