Hello all,
I hear people talking about "recession".... they hear it on the evening news, on the radio and in the newspapers... (one of the many reasons that I avoid spending any time listening or looking at any of these)... already some have asked me about strategies for sales in a recession. I have news for all of you...
There is no recession... I suggest that you print this headline...
"We have a 1% market share and we are going to 2%... YEA!
There is no recession in small business. I always ask people who ask me about sales strategies in a slowdown, "what is your market share?"...
After they stare at me for a minute... they either answer or they get my point. If you have less than 40% market share there can be no recession. The slowdown is in your head if you're the boss, and in the heads of your staff.
What can you do you ask, to help coach those around you to stay positive in light of all the negative news?
- Enroll your staff in a big goal. Imagine it. Picture it. Put banners in the office that put the goal in LARGE NUMBERS... put the goal on screen savers...
- Have a regular meeting to discuss successes... wins... talk about your market share... point out that there is only one way to go for your business.
- Remind everyone that the nightly news, the papers have to sell papers or to get viewers, etc and to do that they accentuate the NEGATIVE... do you know the reason that there is no channel or paper dedicated to only positive news?
- You are the leader... if things slow down, there is only one place to look... when you change things will change... imagine just complaining that "they just don't get it... those employees..." ... You are creating the future you have imagined so what are you picturing? If things are slowing down, you have thought more about what you don't want as compared to what you do want more of.
- Spend time each day picturing, visualizing a big future. See it vividly. See the results you desire... feel what it would feel like achieving those lofty goals.
- Write down a list of what you do not want more of. Then look at the list carefully and write what you do want more of. Once that is complete, throw out that list of what you don't want more of and put the list of what you do want more of in a place where you will see it often, on a car visor, or computer or in a book next to your bed where you can look at it each morning and night. This is using the Law of Attraction. For more information about this Universal Law... call me or get the book The Law of Attraction by Michael Lozier...
Getting the future you have imagined means disciplining your thoughts, words and actions. Get the limits out of your thinking and speaking.
Do you have the limited perspective of the acorn or are you an oak tree?
Is there an echo in there? Perhaps you are an acorn after all... maybe no one told you that you are an OAK.
There is no recession, acorn.
Look for the weekly cartoon on the website, The Limited Perspective, the Adventures of Acorn and Oak... and after you see it, if you have ideas for the cartoon, send them to us and we will publish it using your name as author.
Also, my first book is back from the printer... Sales Success for Rookies, How to Succeed at Sales Right from the Start. You can read a sample and order it online here...
The second version will be done in six weeks, called Sales Success for Veteran Salespeople, How to Stay at Peak Performance.
The Wake up Book will be done by years end...
Thanks to all of you for your support...
Gratefully yours,
Steve
